GWCCG local recommendation -
The G&W Medicines Optimisation Group agreed that primary care prescribers (GPs, NMPs) should not be requested to prescribe sedatives/anxiolytics (eg. Diazepam) for a procedure they are not undertaking. Examples would include anxiety associated with a dental visit; a CT/MRI scan at a hospital; a minor operation undertaken by a dermatology service. It is the responsibillity of the provider service to arrange the prescribing of any medication associated with the procedure or treatment as part of the 'package of care'.
